These black and White pencil and ink illustrations came about as I completed the writing of a book: – “Memories of the Ancestors – the Ancient Celtic Mythology of Ireland, Britain and Europe”. Here I have researched and re-told the myths and legends of many Celtic lands with the added dimension of background notes on the etymology of names within them.

Each picture represents an aspect of the featured story but depicts, instead of a scene from the story, an item of Celtic archaeology imbued with religious or status power. The reason for this being that Celtic peoples did not literally depict their gods, goddesses and heroes of legends as classical civilisations did (except in the rare cases of tribes who broke with this rule), but kept their figurative art semi-abstract.

These illustrations are intended to represent this ideal and decorate the opening of each chapter.
